Riddhi Jain4 March, 2025

The Thailand Summer Festivals, a seven-month festival with the theme "7 Months 7 Wonders," have been announced by the Ministry of Tourism and Sports. They will run from March to September 2025. As part of the Amazing Thailand Grand Tourism and Sports Year 2025, the festival, which includes more than 70 activities in seven categories—Songkran, Pride, Cultural Festivals, Music, Sports, Food, and Arts & Creativity—aims to establish Thailand as a top international tourism destination.

The Purpose of the Summer Festival

Along with Culture Minister Sudawan Wangsuphakijkosol and Tourism and Sports Minister Sorawong Thienthong, Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra formally inaugurated the campaign, highlighting its transformative role in enhancing Thailand's and Thailand tour packages’ reputation on the international tourism scene. The festival schedule will feature a blend of sports, entertainment, and cultural events that honor the country's unique culture and rich history.

The government has teamed up with premier international event planners to incorporate top-notch experiences into regional celebrations in an effort to further increase Thailand's appeal as a world tourism leader. Setting a new standard for experiential tourism, visitors can anticipate thrilling concerts, gourmet exhibitions by famous chefs, and high-profile sporting events.

What to Expect?

With each month devoted to a different feature, the project will launch a varied roster of immersive experiences under the theme "7 Months, 7 Wonders Summer Festivals." The Maha Songkran World Water Festival 2025, a magnificent event honoring Thailand's UNESCO-recognized Songkran customs, is one of the main events. This massive event, which is set for April 11–15 at Sanam Luang in Bangkok, is anticipated to attract sizable groups of people who are excited to enjoy the internationally recognized water celebrations.

The festival calendar is jam-packed with events outside of Songkran, including international sporting competitions, culinary fairs, Pride parades, exhibitions showcasing Thailand's creative sectors, and thrilling music festivals. The program guarantees that the expected increase in tourism would help both popular tourist destinations and lesser-known locations throughout the nation.

Mr. Sorawong Thienthong, Tourism and Sports Minister, quoted: “With 2025 designated as the Amazing Thailand Grand Tourism and Sports Year, we are proud to invite travellers to experience Thailand’s rich cultural heritage. The Thailand Summer Festivals will be a Grand Festivity, bringing together traditional Thai celebrations and world-class events to create a vibrant and engaging atmosphere. This initiative aims to elevate Thai traditions on a global stage and strengthen Thailand’s appeal as a year-round travel destination for visitors from around the world.”

Revenue Expectation

The Thailand Summer Festivals are expected to boost local companies and promote sustainable tourism development, resulting in substantial economic growth, according to authorities. Thailand's tourist industry accounts for more than 14% of the country's GDP, and in order to sustain this explosive growth, the government is investing in both strategic projects and infrastructure.

It is anticipated that the festival series will bring in 3.5 trillion Thai Baht (about $100 billion USD) in tourism, solidifying Thailand's standing as a top travel destination worldwide. The Thailand Summer Festivals serve as a daring statement of the nation's dedication to creativity, inclusivity, and cultural genius as it adopts a year-round tourism model.

Prime Minister H.E. Ms. Paetongtarn Shinawatra said: “Tourism is a key driver of Thailand’s economy, contributing over 14% of GDP. Our goal is to establish Thailand as a year-round travel destination, reducing the low-season impact with vibrant festivals and cultural experiences. The Thailand Summer Festivals will showcase diverse events across all regions, boosting local economies while attracting global visitors. With this initiative, we aim to achieve a record breaking of 3.5 trillion Baht in tourism revenue.”
