Lumphini Park

One of the most well-known parks is Lumphini, or the green heart of Bangkok, which can be a great break place from the busy traffic and high-rise buildings. It is built across 142 acres, and the people visiting it can access a tranquil place with amazing gardens, a considerable man-made lake, and large fields to spend their leisure time. Locals use the park to jog, cycle, do tai chi and have their morning yoga. Here families have their picnics or go out in their paddleboats or walk under the shady trees. Bird watchers and nature lovers will find great pleasure identifying many species, and the vision of monitor lizards is an optional extra. It has cultural significance as well; as such, the park has regular community events and concerts. Constructed in the 1920s by King Rama VI, it still continues as a reminder of the modern Bangkok and nature relationship. Looking to become active, to spend a fun time or even to take a look at how a common Thai lives, Lumphini Park is the place to visit in the city.

Best time to visit
The most suitable time to visit Lumphini Park is in the morning between 6 and 9 am because the weather is cooler and people exercise around the park. Midday may be warm, and hence not as comfortable to walk. The late afternoons, between 4 and 7 PM, are also quite pleasant since the sun strikes a soft note and would be particularly suitable for boat rides, picnics and also photography. The evenings are vibrant, as families, joggers, and the music make the park more charming.
How to reach Lumphini Park
  • By Car: Taxis/rides are available as well as ride-hailing apps, with various entry gates around the park. Parking space is limited, and therefore it is better to go early.
  • By Train: The MRT (underground metro) has two stations just near the park, and both are easily within walking distance: Lumphini Station (Exit 3) and Si Lom Station (Exit 2).
  • On foot: You may get there on foot when you stay nearby the Silom, Sathorn or Ratchadamri areas. The walk creates a certain connection with the city streets and makes one experience it even when entering this quiet haven.
