OYO Restricts Entry For Unmarried Couples In Meerut

OYO rooms, a travel booking major, introduced a new check in policy which will require unmarried couples to provide proof of their relationship while checking in. Failure to do so will result in prohibition of booking of OYO rooms and its partner hotels in Meerut, UP. While OYO has rolled out this new policy only in Meerut, UP as of now but plans are rife that this policy can be expanded to more cities in India depending on the response. 

The OYO region head has spoken on this matter, stating that the company's reason for such a move is to uphold the safety of its guests and portray responsible hospitality practices. The company said it wants to project itself as a more family-friendly and safe environment for students, business people, religious people, and solo travellers.

New check in policy sparks a meme fest and controversy amongst people

OYO has also stated that the new policy has been rolled out after receiving complaints from local civil society groups requesting urgent action on the matter. This new check-in policy has sparked a debate and the internet is going frenzy about the news. 

While some are welcoming the new change, stating that the new policy is in alignment with Hindu traditions and culture, while others claim that OYO is digging its own grave, with netizens starting a meme fest on the internet with some really funny and hilarious memes and quotes. 

They are also pointing out that the Indian Law doesn’t prohibit unmarried couples from staying together and that this policy is outdated and completely unnecessary. Many are also criticising the fact that the policy is looking down upon unmarried couples and judging them unnecessarily and their right to freedom is being infringed upon, while some are also suggesting that this outdated culturally backward policy will be rolled back in a matter of a year or so.
